What's the reason for the Teflon and PVDF extended delivery times
Over the last year, the industry has had more shortages than I have seen in my three decades experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have seen several shortages, and delivery issues on account of resin allocations through plastic resin manufacturers. This is actually the very first occasion I have seen all these issues at one time.
PTFE Rod (TFE) and Kynar both are on allocation.
Both of these resins are in short supply. The PTFE Sheet product PTFE (TFE) and PVDF manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar which is mined in Mongolia and China. The world requirement for this mineral has grown significantly, and also the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high temperature resistance, excellent chemical resistance and very low co-efficient of friction (slippery) and is used in a good deal of applications from non-stick fry pots and pans to ptfe tape for personal use. This specific mineral is the crucial raw material inside the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and a lot of refrigerants. This increasing amount of demand mixed with shortage of raw materials is mainly responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double in the last year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to stay in affect in the near future.
